Latimer is proud of Moreland's award-winning instrumental music program. By joining Moreland’s music program, your student will join a program that aligns with state and national curriculum standards for music education.

4th GRADE

Instrumental music is introduced in 4th grade, when they learn to play the recorder. The students are also introduced to the instruments used in band and orchestra. If your student chooses to participate in music, they can select an instrument and begin small group instruction. They finish the year celebrating their musical accomplishments in concert with all the 4th and 5th grade students at their school.

Band instruments include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, or percussion.
Orchestra instruments include violin, viola, cello, and string bass.

5th GRADE

In 5th grade, students continue to develop their musical skills in small group lessons during the week as well as full band/orchestra rehearsals once per week. The students enjoy multiple opportunities to perform, including the Halloween concert at the Moreland Pumpkin Patch, the Winter Concert, and Spring Concert.

MIDDLE SCHOOL AND BEYOND

Your student’s music education in Moreland doesn’t stop in 5th grade! Latimer offers a robust music program including: band, orchestra, and percussion ensemble. The students enjoy multiple opportunities to perform, including the Winter Concert, and Spring Concert, as well as at festivals and competitions.

MUSIC IN MORELAND IS POSSIBLE ONLY WITH YOUR HELP

Donations to MEF from parents and caregivers like you make it possible for more than 700 Moreland students to participate in the instrumental music program each year.

Music is free to all students in Moreland. Instruments are available to borrow, or families can rent/buy instruments from local music shops. No student is excluded from participation in the music program or penalized in any way due to financial difficulty.

The state of California provides no money for music education. Roughly 50% of the cost of running the music program in Moreland is provided by donations from people like you. Please consider a tax deductible donation today.
